On Friday 31st March I learned about choosing appropriate texts and what to keep in mind for example the Mirrors, Windows (and ‘sliding glass doors’). I found the video of Rudine Sims Bishop interesting especially how she uses "Mirrors, Windows and Sliding Glass Doors" as an analogy to discuss the importance of diversity in books and the authors who write them. We need books in which children can see reflections of themselves - but also look through and see other worlds she says.
I learned more about how to group learners and what to consider when doing so e.g Mixed ability AND levelled groups = flexible grouping.
I learned about how to select a range of appropriate and different texts and to have a balance e.g non fiction and fiction texts, poetry etc.
I could possibly share what I have learned about planning and compiling texts especially texts for a wider reading programme (shared, reading to, buddy/pair, Independent).
